World poker tour
With internet poker thankfully providing automated prompters when it’s your turn to act, a repeat of the disaster hand that saw Batista crash out of the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Classic last month was not possible. Fresh from his comical headphone mishap on the World Poker Tour, the much-maligned Chad Batista bounced back in emphatic fashion to take down event #10 of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series.
In that particular mix-up, Batista saw his title hopes dashed when his penchant for loud hip-hop caused him to miss the fact that fellow poker pro John Juanda had moved all-in in front of him and mistakenly put all his chips in the middle with 2-2. There was to be no repeat in Batista’s more customary virtual arena, however, as the pint-sized poker demon bagged himself $225,000 and a coveted gold FTOPS jersey after besting a field of 4,682 runners in the $300 + $22 No Limit Hold’em event.
Playing under his Full Tilt alias “jse81”, Batista eventually saw off the challenge of Lilly79 after the pair agreed a heads-up deal which left an additional $15,000 to the winner. Other notable finishers in the tournament included Isaac Baron in 11th and Dustin “DDBeast” Dorrance-Bowman, who finished 15th.
